Day 12 of the Advocare 24 Day Challenge

I'm halfway!!! :)

Last night I did not get to the gym at all. I had a flat tire yesterday morning, had to get the tire, then go home to put it on the car.

Also, since I have not been very regular, I have added coffee and I am glad I stayed home last night. TMI, but I finally got things moving.

So, today, to the gym I go! BodyPump tonight and I'm adding in heavier weights!

I did weigh myself this morning and found that I have not lost a single pound since starting this endeavor. Did some checking around on the internet and found that I'm more than likely converting fat directly to muscle since I am trimming down and my clothes are fitting much better than they were. Still hurts a little to realize that I didn't lose a thing, scale-wise.

But I'm continuing on anyway because the journey isn't over. I'm doing all of the right things and I'm becoming more efficient during cardio and weight training, so there is progress there.

Continuing all of my supplements and I have purchased another set for Day 25 and beyond! I got some more Spark (of course), Rehydrate, and MNS3 coming in, in addition to the next round of meal replacement shakes.

I also read that sometimes it takes time after the 24 day challenge to lose the weight. I am doing everything I can do nutritionally and physically, so I just need to wait for my body to catch up. Keep on keeping on. Besides, I'd rather be fit and strong than just skinny.

I'm ready to see the finish line of this challenge and all of the changes it brought me!

Day 11 of the Advocare 24 Day Challenge

Sunday funday! :)

I have added a small cup of coffee into my rotation now to help with becoming more "regular." I think this is part of the withdrawal from coffee because I had some and it resolved itself. :) TMI, but there you go.

Yesterday, I kind of fell off the wagon a bit, but tried to make up for it with lots of water to flush it all out.

No gym time yesterday, but I was able to get 9K steps in, which was all right.

I'm very thankful I have my Advocare 24 Day Challenge app on my phone - the Max Phase is taking a little getting used to, as it requires multiple supplements now.

Still feeling pretty good! Ready to rock doubles today (Monday) at the gym!

Day 11 of the Advocare 24 Day Challenge

Saturday was the first day of Max Phase and I started it off right!

Doubles at the gym - BodyStep and BodyPump followed by a salad at Chick-Fil-A (I was pretty good).

The gym was awesome! I am definitely getting stronger and will be adding more weight on Monday's doubles (BodyPump and BodyAttack). I am able to do 5 on-the-toes pushups during Step and Pump and I'll need to add a brick to my Step next time! I'm getting stronger and feeling AMAZING!

We went to see the new house and I realized there are only 15 days from Saturday until the move!!

Day 10 of the Advocare 24 Day Challenge

I did it! I finished the Herbal Cleanse!

I felt a little sick on Friday night so I ended up not going to BodyPump on Friday night. Friday was pretty much a bust. I haven't been as regular as I was pre-Cleanse and I wondered if that was from not passing the toxins hardly at all between Thursday and Friday night.

This was the last day of the Cleanse Phase and I'm a little sad I won't have my Fiber Drink anymore. Haha!

I am starting the Max Phase and that includes starting the MNS3 supplements along with continuing on with Spark, Catalyst, and OmegaPlex.

I still have not weighed in at this point. I am saving that for Day 25. :)

Day 9 of the Advocare 24 Day Challenge

Day 9 was good! No food hangover from the free for all at Texas de Brazil, which was AWESOME!!

Still haven't weighed myself yet, but I am getting firmer for sure! I bought more Spark last night - mango strawberry - and it is delicious! I also got some more packets of the Meal Replacement Shake as well. I need to make sure that I have enough for the Max Phase and beyond.

I actually got to go to Step class last night and SO MANY BURPEES! And I did ALL of them! Felt like a rockstar!! Definitely getting stronger for sure, I can feel it in my workouts!

So, what did I eat yesterday?

Breakfast: Spark, Fiber Drink, Meal Replacement  Shake

Morning Snack: Zone bar

Lunch: spaghetti squash with turkey Bolognese sauce, red grapes

Afternoon Snack: Think Thin Protein bar

Dinner: salad greens, half avocado, grilled chicken breast tenderloins

Evening Snack: Zone bar with triple zero greek yogurt

I was really hungry yesterday and I think it was some of the refined carbs from Wednesday night. So yesterday was kind of a re-train.

I'm also noticing that I'm less hungry in the mornings when I have the Fiber Drink before the Meal Replacement shake. I wonder if I can have the Fiber Drink everyday? I need to check with my Advocare coach!

We are almost onto the Max Phase! Feeling excited!

Day 8 of the Advocare 24 Day Challenge

It's been one whole week since starting and it doesn't feel like it's been that long.

Day 8 was good.

I took a rest day since it was my anniversary (12 years!) and we were going out to dinner. I knew that it would be a calorie bomb, so I adjusted what I ate all day long prior to dinnertime.

Fiber drink is back for these last three days of the Cleanse Phase - YAY! I'm still feeling great! I haven't weighed myself yet, but I can tell a difference in the way my clothes are fitting already. My husband says I look smaller in the tummy and sides, too! I have been working hard at the gym, so I'm wondering if I'm gaining any muscle. Right now, the muscles are still swollen from being worked so they look more defined, but I'm interested to see once it's been a few weeks how much of it is muscle and how much is swelling.

I'm interested in getting some Nighttime Recovery from Advocare to see how it can help with a quicker muscle repair.

I have been eating 100+ grams of protein everyday to help aid in this, includes meats, nut butters, and the Meal Replacement Shakes. I am also going to need some more Meal Replacement Shakes soon - they're so good! :)

So what did I eat yesterday? Too much! haha!

Breakfast: Spark, Fiber Drink, Meal Replacement Shakes

Morning Snack: Zone bar

Lunch: leftover turkey meatloaf, pureed cauliflower, and green beans with a salad, apple, and peanut butter

Afternoon Snack: I didn't have one.

Dinner: OMG everything at Texas de Brazil steakhouse. Lots of meat, salads (lettuce leaf salads, onion ceviche, greenbeans, artichoke hearts salad), some goat cheese terrine, mushrooms, a bunch of the small hot peppers, and some *bad* foods (a few of the cheese bread puff things and a quarter of a slice of their cheesecake). I did manage to skip out on the alcohol and really too much of the refined stuff.

We tried to walk off dinner afterwards by taking a few rounds around BridgeStreet. I missed my OmegaPlex at dinner, so I took it before bedtime. I ended up with a lot of heartburn from the peppers, but surprisingly did not wake up with a food hangover. That was awesome.

This morning I'm back on the clean eating train and tonight is Step class and maybe Flow - I need to stretch. I killed my triceps on Mon/Tue and now they are so stiff and sore!!

Day 7 of the Advocare 24 Day Challenge

Day 7 - I couldn't believe it on Tuesday when it was already Day 7, almost a week!!!

I was still flying high from doubles on Monday and I went back to the gym Tuesday ready to kill it. BodyCombat was a lot of fun! I worked hard and I can feel myself getting stronger. I was able to do a few pushups on my toes rather than my knees. I couldn't believe how much stronger I'm getting!

Day 7 marked the end of the Herbal Cleanse tablets as we start tapering off on the Cleanse phase of the challenge. Fiber Drink comes back for the rest of the Cleanse Phase, which truth be told, is awesome. I really like the Fiber Drink.

So, what did I eat on Tuesday?

Breakfast: Spark, Catalyst, Meal Replacement Shake

Morning Snack: 2 hard boiled eggs, fresh salsa, red grapes

Lunch: Left over turkey meatloaf, pureed cauliflower, and green beans

Afternoon Snack: Zone bar, Spark

Dinner: Grilled pork loin, small cup of white rice, big plate of salad with Annie's ginger salad dressing

After dinner: Fuji apple with Justin's peanut butter

In closing, I have to say, this doesn't feel like a real cleanse - I'm not hungry, not feeling tired, not in the bathroom all the time, not feeling deprived. It feels amazing and I am excited to see where this journey takes me.

Day 6 of the Advocare 24 Day Challenge

Day 6 was AMAZING!

I started out really early (woke up at 0430 and at work by 0600) so I could leave work at 1200 to pick up my husband at the airport and enjoy the afternoon together.

I did two bad things yesterday: I ate sushi and I ate cheez-its - they're not really approved for the cleanse.

BUT I did a lot of good things! I'm telling you, Spark is my new favorite thing. No jitters, no wired feeling, just clean energy and focus!

In fact, I had so much energy that I was able to do a double session of classes at the gym last night! It was the Les Mills Release Party for BodyAttack and BodyPump yesterday, so it was high energy, high impact, and a LOT of fun!

I started low on the weights because I didn't want to hurt myself - good form is so important! I did get a good workout in during BodyPump even with a low weight.

BodyAttack last night was incredible as well! I didn't realize that I was getting stronger until we had to do burpees. Last week, I almost threw up. This week, I was able do use power and not feel awful afterwards. I tried almost all of the power moves to burn more fat and build muscle (except jumping lunges, I am just not there yet) and was pleasantly tired when I left to go home.

And oh! I found a new Advocare product I want to try! Rehydrate! They had samples at the gym last night. It keeps you from crashing right after a big workout. And of course, it is delicious!! It perked me up for the ride home and long enough to eat dinner and take a shower. Then I crashed into the bed, but it was 8:30 by then anyway. I can't wait til I get paid on Friday! :o)

Sooo, what did I eat yesterday?

Breakfast: Spark, Meal Replacement Shake

Morning Snack: 2 hard boiled eggs, fresh salsa

Lunch: miso soup, spicy tuna roll, California roll from Fulin's

Afternoon Snack: Fuji apple and Justin's peanut butter, handful of Avengers cheez-its

Pre-Workout Snack: Zone perfect bar

Dinner: spaghetti squash with turkey Bolognese sauce

Evening Snack: Chobani yogurt with pineapple

I ate a lot more yesterday than I probably should have, but I was able to keep it in the zone!

I can't believe I have been doing this for almost a week!

Day 5 of the Advocare 24 Day Challenge

We woke up ready to go on Sunday, Day 5!

We got up early, made breakfast, and did some housework before spending the day in Tennessee with my dad. We played outside and I took a ten minute cat nap before playing some more before going home. When I got home, it was laundry, grocery shopping, and prep cooking! I think I fell into bed asleep at 8pm!

I stocked up on lots of lean chicken breast, ground turkey breast, and lean ground beef. Tons of vegetables and fruits, as well! It wasn't too expensive because I tried to make my meal plan that included lots of the same types of vegetables and meats.

The menu for this week?

Last night was turkey meatloaf, mashed cauliflower, and green beans
Tonight: turkey Bolognese over roasted spaghetti squash, green salad
Tuesday: grilled chicken salad
Wednesday: roasted chicken with onions, carrots, celery, and green salad
Thursday: turkey burgers with sweet potato fries (I'm supposed to go out that night for dinner, but I'm probably going to eat before I go and just have a small salad. Restaurants are notorious for calorie bombs)
Friday: taco salad
Saturday: Italian chicken, green beans, roasted tomatoes, and green salad

I prep cooked the grilled chicken breast tenderloins (marinated with chipotle), the spaghetti squash, and made a huge bag of salad for the week ahead.

I ended up making homemade frozen dinners with the leftover meatloaf, faux-tatoes, and green beans for lunches this week!

What did I eat yesterday?

Breakfast: spark, two eggs over easy cooked in coconut oil, fresh salsa, red grapes, and a bowl of steel cut oats with 1tbsp powdered peanut butter

Snack: KIND bar

Lunch: white rice, kielbasa sausage, onions (terrible, I know!)

Snack: spark

Dinner: turkey meatloaf, faux-tatoes, green beans.

No snack last night, I was too busy with laundry and getting the kids ready for today!

Day 4 of the Advocare 24 Day Challenge

Day 4 was really good!

No more fiber drink (it comes back on Day 8), which kind of made me sad haha. Instead, it was replaced with a high dose of probiotics (TMI, but I really felt that).

The toxic taste was gone by Saturday afternoon. I was still a little tired, but I don't know if it was from the detox or everything else we did that day!

I went to the gym that morning for BodyStep - Release 100 comes out on Monday!! It was a good workout, except the burpees. I hate burpees. But, I'll take 'em. Love hate relationship, for sure.

We went to the park twice! The first time, we went with my niece and nephew and the kids played on the playground. The second time, the girls and I went for a two mile walk in the warm sunshine. They were worn out!

We had a lot of fun outside for basically the whole day!! Lots of Vitamin D, too!

What did I eat?

Breakfast: meal replacement shake, spark

Morning Snack: Think Thin protein bar

Lunch: Chickfila grilled chicken Cobb salad with 1/2 packet of light Italian dressing

Afternoon Snack: apple with peanut butter

Dinner: Bibimbap, ordered from Grub South

Dinner was GOOD. I didn't eat all of the rice, so I had lots of room for the meat and vegetables. I didn't eat an evening snack that day ha!

I ended up going to sleep at 8:30, we were all worn out. What a great day!

Day 3 of the Advocare 24 Day Challenge

Friday was Day 3 of the 24 day challenge and again, all good!

I still had the toxic mouth taste on Day 3 and I was a little sleepy in the afternoon (typical with detox). But then, lots of energy after my Spark (I am addicted!)

I still got my steps in! I had lunch with a friend and dinner with family. It ended up being a very busy day! I didn't get to my 4:30 Pump class either, which was kind of disappointing, but eh, can't win them all.

Nothing changed on Friday in the way of supplements. In fact, I was really beginning to like the fiber drink. I got the Peaches and Cream flavor, and I hear the Citrus is really awful, so I got lucky. :)

What did I eat on Friday?

Breakfast: Meal replacement shake, fiber drink, spark

Morning Snack: Think Thin Creamy Peanut Butter Protein Bar

Lunch: Earth Fare salad bar with some white fish, it was so good!

Afternoon snack: apple with peanut butter

Dinner: Panera's chicken cobb salad, apple

Eating clean and feeling good!

Day 2 of the Advocare 24 Day Challenge

Day 2 went just as well as Day 1, if not better!

I did BodyStep at the gym last night and tried to get there early enough for a pregame on the treadmill (just walking right now!) to help get my step count up. :o) And, I already can tell a difference! I wasn't as tired mid-workout and felt amazing afterwards! Let me tell you, I have been feeling very tired after my workouts previously to this. Maybe because I wasn't doing them regularly. Maybe because I was eating the wrong things.

I'm still having the weird mouth taste due to detox. I didn't realize how toxic I had gotten! And last night's sweat session was saltier and er, grittier than usual.

What did I eat yesterday? Again, a LOT! Ha ha!

Breakfast: Fiber drink and gluten free oatmeal

Snack: two hardboiled eggs with fresh salsa

Lunch: leftovers of chicken, sweet potato, and broccoli

Snack after mid-afternoon Spark: apple and peanut butter

Dinner: I kind of went off track and had some white rice, but managed my portion, kimchi stew with tofu, and seaweed.

Snack before bed: ThinkThin High Protein Bar in white chocolate (it was just ok)

Still on the same supplements (they won't change until Day 4) and I am adding in the Meal Replacement Shakes for Day 3 and beyond because it's just making my life easier.

The local farmer's market is opening this weekend and I am looking forward to it! Just in time for my cleanse, eh? :o) I'll be precooking a lot this weekend to save time next week. I found this website with a lot of clean eating recipes I can work into my rotation!

Happy Friday!

Day 1 of the Advocare 24 Day Challenge

The first day of the challenge went well!

What supplements did I take?

Spark, Catalyst, Fiber Drink, and Herbal Cleanse

What did I eat?

A lot!

Breakfast: eggs, salsa, two clementines after the Fiber Drink

Morning Snack: Think Thin salted caramel fiber/protein bar

Lunch: tuna, grape tomatoes, baby carrots, hummus, red grapes

Afternoon Snack: sliced Fuji apple with Justin's peanut butter

Dinner: roasted chicken thighs, sweet potatoes, broccoli, and kimchi :)

After-dinner snack: sliced Fuji apple with Justin's peanut butter (hey it was really good)

I didn't feel hungry or dissatisfied with what I ate yesterday, in fact, I felt awesome. I am not even missing my coffee!

I didn't workout yesterday because I wanted to gauge energy levels at home. Everything was pretty good.

I am noticing a weird taste in my mouth and I know it's the detox; the same thing happened when I was on GAPS last year.

Nothing weird on the bathroom front - that is what I was most worried about. But so far, so good.

Tonight, I'll be going to Step class! Ready to get my workout on!

Renewal and Reset

In two days, it will have been a year since my last pregnancy ended unexpectedly. I was alone when it started, on a trip for work, and freaking out. This baby was a surprise to both me and my husband, but welcomed nonetheless. Six weeks and four days is when it ended. I hadn't even had my first appointment with my OBGYN. I hadn't seen the ultrasound of my little peanut baby.

Instead, I was in the emergency room in Lawton, OK with a staff who, I felt, was coldly indifferent to what was happening. To them, it was clinical. To me, it was a living nightmare. Initially diagnosed with an ovarian ectopic pregnancy (which it was not and highly unlikely to be), I was shuttled to the nearby OBGYN's office where the nurse asked "how many good pregnancies have I had" and the doctor tried to assure me that it was not my fault. Which is wasn't, but you try telling that to any mother who has lost their baby.

I made my arrangements to come home immediately and wasn't able to leave until April 10, 2014. I only prayed that the baby would stay put until I could get home where I wasn't alone. Bleeding and feeling the sharp pangs of cramps, essentially childbirth, I came home. My husband and I immediately went to my OBGYN where the doctor told me "Congratulations! You're still pregnant!"

But, I knew that it was a lie. There hadn't been a detectable heartbeat. Not in Lawton. Not in Huntsville.

On the way back from the doctor, I felt the baby come.

That was it. A life ended before it really could begin.

It was not my first time miscarrying one of my babies. I miscarried on July 30, 2009 at eight weeks. There are two now that are missing and I have comfort in the fact that those two in Heaven are together.

Fast forward a tumultuous 363 days and here I am. I've gained 15 pounds since then. I kind of gave up on going to the gym and watching what I ate. I struggled a lot with every cycle that didn't give me back my baby. I struggled a lot on December 1, 2014 (my EDD). Now, we aren't in a position to have more babies, but my heart ached because my hands were empty. I let my fitness and my health go.

But now, approaching the anniversary of this experience, I felt a need for renewal. For resetting my health and fitness. I'm finally ready.

And I'm doing that with the 24 Day Challenge from Advocare and Les Mills' classes at the gym.

The 24 Day Challenge comprises of two phases: Cleanse and Max Phases. In the Cleanse phase, we reset and prime the body for the nutrient absorption that is the focus of the Max Phase. Additionally, with a clean diet and NO COFFEE, it'll put me back on path to a clean diet. I'm replacing my coffee with the Spark energy drink and so far, on Day 1, today, I haven't missed it.

For exercise, I'm focusing on building up my cardio endurance with BodyStep, BodyCombat, and BodyAttack. And, I'm actually going to try to build up my muscles with BodyPump several times per week.

I don't think I'll be back to running until after Day 24, but I'm very excited to see where this road takes me!!
